Cyberknight welcomes you to the world of Information Technology (IT) security and the best practices that will help you navigate through it safely. Cyberknight’s goal is to help you keep sensitive data private, secure and out of the hands of all potential foes.
You can see Cyberknight in his debut video, where he educates users about
viruses, worms, phishing, and data transfer through wireless networks. He
also shows you different ways to protect sensitive data, how to safely read
email, ways to avoid spam and much more .
IT security is critical to the university, and your well-being. Join Cyberknight in his crusade for IT security. Please view the video (you will need RealPlayer to watch the video) and review the handout (pdf) or visit the links below to arm yourself with the information you need to maintain peace and security.

IT Policies |
|
Information Technology, or IT, is the foundation for processing and exchanging information. This includes computers and other telecommunications devices and the resources associated with their maintenance and daily operation. In the 21st century, maintaining IT security has become an important part of any organization's procedures. The URL’s below will take you to the IT policies employees of the university must adhere to. |

Maintaining security of the networks that help provide these communications services is the responsibility of everyone who uses computers at the university. Remember it is important to scan your computer for viruses on a regular basis. The URL’s below will provide additional information about viruses, spam and phishing. |

Portable Devices / WiFi |
|
With the increased availability of wireless networks, portable devices are quickly becoming standard on campus. Wireless networks mean computers no longer have to be "tied" by cables to a network. Unfortunately, wireless technology also has inherent security weaknesses. If you do have a situation where you must transmit sensitive or critical data over wireless connections, use the university's Virtual Private Network, or VPN connection. Wireless can provide great freedom, but it comes at a cost. The following URL’s will explain how to make your wireless experience a safe one. |

Your responsibilities for protecting UCF’s Telecommunications Resources include:
Network - Maintain the security and integrity of the networks by only using the network for authorized purposes. If security breaches are seen or suspected, immediately report them through the proper channels of communication in your department.
Computers - Acceptable use of your computer is considered anything directly relating to academic research or administrative activities. Anything else will require permission.
Data - Keep all sensitive data, yours and the university’s, protected. The best way to accomplish this is by keeping your computer, and the network safe from intrusion.
Visit the URL below to report an incident or spurious activity.
By being aware of the responsibility you have for keeping UCF's network, computers and data safe, you can unlock the cyberknight within you.
